Julie Degroot

Where Clay MeetsCoast, Table,and Soul

Julie Cross Ceramics, based in the coastal town of Folkestone, is rooted in a love of nature, art, and the quiet richness of daily life. With a background in fine art and a deep sensitivity to texture and form, Julie creates moody, romantic ceramics that speak to the beauty of imperfection—echoing the raw, shifting landscapes that inspire her.

Food, wine, and cheese are among Julie’s favourite indulgences—thoughtful, sensory rituals that she believes deserve objects made with the same care. Her hand-shaped plates, bowls, and vessels are crafted to elevate these moments, adding depth and texture to the table. Whether it’s a shared meal, a solitary breakfast, or wine by candlelight, her work brings intimacy and artistry to the everyday.

Her life by the sea—swimming through all seasons, rowing on open water, and walking the coastline with her daughter Alana—grounds her work in the elements. These quiet rhythms of nature guide her process and infuse each piece with a sense of stillness and presence.

Julie also offers ceramics workshops for all levels, welcoming others into the meditative, hands-on world of clay.
